In this article, I will try to post the detailed syllabus, pattern which the SSC - Staff Selection Commission is
following for the conduct of Combined Graduate Level Examination. Here,
it is quite noticeable that SSC has recently made some changes in the
CGL Examination pattern, which will be effective from 2015 onwards :
Following are some changes in SSC CGL Graduate Level Exam Pattern| Syllabus2015:-
Staff
Selection Commission (SSC) conducts combined Graduate Level (CGL)
competitive exam which is conducted in three stages. The Examination can
be divided into 3 tiers, which are:-
- Combined Graduate Level (Preliminary) Examination (Tier-1)
- Combined Graduate Level (Main) Examination (Tier-2)
- Personality Test/Interview
How To Prepare For SSC CGL 2015:-
In these tough days of competition you need to pay some hard work and
dedication to crack SSC CGL. All you have to do is study smart and not
hard. There are tons of books available in the market for CGL Exam, but
few of them are best. You need to choose some good books, do previous
year papers. Atleast daily practice one or two sets of question papers.
CGL Pre Exam (Tier 1):- CGL
Tier 1 is a common competitive exam which will be conducted for all
candidates who have applied for SSC CGL 2015. Candidates who will score
minimum qualifying marks are eligible to participate in main exam.
SSC CGL Tier 1 Exam Pattern:-

- Both Papers will be objective type question papers.
- Both Papers will be provided in both English and Hindi language.
- The minimum qualifying marks in both papers will be decided by SSC and it can be vary from previous year depending upon the number of candidates appearing in each category-wise vacancies.
- Disabled candidates will be provided extra time to complete the examination.
- The basic objective for this exam is to select the dedicated candidates for the main (Tier 2) exam.
SSC CGL Tier 1 Syllabus:-
Part A :a) General Intelligence: It
would include questions of both verbal and non verbal type. This
component will include questions on analogies, similarities and
differences, spatial visualization, spatial orientation, problem
solving, analysis, judgement, decision making, visual memory,
discrimination, observation, relationship concepts, arithmetic
reasoning, verbal and figure classification, arithmetical number series, non-verbal series, coding and decoding, statement conclusion, syllogistic reasoning etc.
Part A :b) General Awareness:
Questions in this component will be aimed at testing the candidates
general awareness of the environment around him and its application to
society. Questions will also be designed to test knowledge of current
events and of such matters of everyday observation and experience in
their scientific aspects as may be expected of an educated person. The
test will also include questions relating to India and its neighbouring
countries especially pertaining to History, Culture, Geography, economic
scene, General polity and scientific research etc. These questions will
be such that they do not require a special study of any discipline
Part B :Arithmetic: This
part will include questions on problems relating to number system,
computation of whole numbers, decimals and fractions, relationships
between numbers, fundamental arithmetical operations, percentage, ratio
and proportion, averages, interest, profit and loss, discount, use of
tables and graphs, mensuration, time and distance, ratio and time etc.
SSC CGL Tier 2 (Main Competitive Exam):- SSC CGL Main exam will be of MCQs type.
SSC CGL Tier 2 Exam Pattern:-

SSC CGL Tier 2 Syllabus (Main Exam):-
Paper II: English Language (Conventional type):- In
addition to the testing of candidates understanding of the English
language and its correct usage, his writing ability would also be
tested. Questions on paragraph writing/ report writing etc. may be
included.
Paper III: Arithmetic:- This
paper will include questions on problems relating to number system,
computation of whole numbers, decimals and fractions, relationships
between numbers, fundamental arithmetical operations, percentage, ratio
and proportion, averages, interest, profit and loss, discount, use of
tables and graphs, mensuration, time and distance, ratio and time etc.

SSC CGL Interview / Skill Test / Personality Test (Tier 3):-
The Final Tier-3 interview test or personality test are only for those
candidates who have applied in Group-2 (Personality Test is not required
in Pay Band –I ₹. 5200-20200).
Examination Pattern:-The
interview/personality test is structured in such a manner that the
candidates’ interests, knowledge, various traits, aptitude, suitability
etc. are probed among other things, through academic qualifications,
experience, extra-curricular activities, general awareness/ knowledge,
depth of knowledge of the subjects studied (10+2 onward), communicative
skill and over-all personality etc. Candidates called for
interview/personality test have the option to converse either in Hindi
or English language during the interview process.
